Purchasing a 1982 Honda CB750C

Hey y'all,

      I'm thinking about purchasing this 1982 Honda CB750C. Here is the link to it: http://dothan.craigslist.org/mcy/5544749470.html

     According to the seller, it has a brand new chain and sprocket set. The engine and the exhaust are ceramic high temp paint. For perfect performance, the carbs need to be synched. The seller is offering me the bike for $1300. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

The seller also responded to a questionnaire I gave him in regards to information about the bike:
According to the seller, the bike has not been downed. The oil is changed once a month whether or not he rides it. The valves will need to have the carbs checked and synced, but they aren't too far out. The bike starts and runs well. The only mod is a rear fender change. He also says he has no concerns about safety when it comes to riding the bike.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

The seat looks uncomfortable. I think the seller is giving you some BS trying to sell it. "Change the oil once a month?" Come on, really. How does he know the valves are slightly out of adjustment? Has he pulled the valve cover and actually checked? The one thing you will really need to check is if the charging system is working. Take an Ohm meter with you to look at the bike. Set the meter to 20V DC, put the leads to the battery terminals. You should have at least 12.4 volts. Then start the engine and rev it to 3000 rpm. It should show 13.4 volts. If it does not, it will need work. Also check the tires for age and wear.

I am going to expand a bit more. On the battery test, a lead-acid based battery(includes gel and agm) has 6 cells, each cell should put out 2.1 volts at full charge, with no load on the battery. So, I would look for 12.6 volts on fully charged, good battery. The rest of the test is spot on.

Wow that's a long url, but it shows you what to look for. You don't want to get a bike that has "new" tires on it, when they are 8 years old.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

The pipes will do OK, but the engine will never get hot enough to cure that ceramic paint. It will always be leaving black, chalky residue until you remove it. Just a thought.
