After I got a little downtime, I swapped out the stock exhaust on my Shadow to a pair of chrome Sportster slip-on mufflers. One of the previous owners had done the "hole saw" mod, removing the caps on the backs of the mufflers. Essentially straight through pipes.
Removal took about 30 minutes, fabricating the straps to hold the mufflers took another 15-20, and gaskets and clamps maybe another 10-15 minutes.
I wanted some quieter exhaust on my bike, as my ears would ring pretty well after a ride. I'm not a big fan of earbuds or earplugs when I ride. See other postings for that thread.
So, I put it all together, and took it for a ride. Nicely quieter exhaust, but still has a little attitude. There's more of a putt-putt sound, but I'm OK with that.
Here is a
LINK to a video at idle with a few rev cycles.Downside? It looks like I'll either have to extend and angle the pipes up about 10-30 degrees if I want to keep the center stand installed. Same for the side stand, but I don't think it's as bad. Scrapes a bit on a left turn with some lean dialed in.
Let me know what you think.
