REAR SPROCKET TEETH NUMBER

gonebiking-2
My Honda (82 CB750K ) came out with either a 43 a 44 teeth rear sprocket. I went down four sizes to a 40 tooth rear sprocket in order to reduce RPM at high speed cruising. However the workshop manual says 38 teeth on rear and 15 on front and I know that is definately wrong as I`ve never had a 38 tooth rear sprocket ever. It so long ago since I changed the rear sprocket that I cant remember whether its a 43 or 44 tooth rear sprocket. Therefore my next problem is what O ring chain do I use - a 630/88 or 630/90 ???? Can you guys in the states or UK check the number on the rear sprockets of your 79 - 82 CB750K and let me know what the number is that is stamped on the sprocket. Many thanks

My '79 750k has 15t/38t sprockets and a 630 90 link chain.
I too am concerned about high rev's at freeway speeds, but I'm
hearing that it's normal. This is my first cb750k.

This poses a real problem,as I get good fuel consumption with a 15 -40 sprockets set up, but starting on steep hills has always been a problem as I have to really rev the motor and slip the clutch to get underway. Also I have to change down more often, so am thinking that I go back to a 44 rear teeth sprocket and damn the consquences. Now to find the right chain to go with the change in sprocket set up. A 15 -38 setup would be too high a ratio for first gear, but would be OK for long distinace touring , just so long as I didnt have any mountain passes to climb, then I would be forever havomg to swop cogs

When you say freeway speeds, how fast are you travelling and what is your rev counter reading at the speed you are doing. Let me know and I`ll tell you how it compares to what my Honda is doing at the same speed on a a 15/40 teeth set up.
