Reducing weight on a 73 CB750

Bradley JB
I recently bought a nice 1973 Honda CB750 and I'm in love. But I'm not a real big guy and the thing weighs a ton. What are some good ways to reduce weight on the bike?

Remove everything that is not necessary to it's safe operation. This is called bobbing, or chopping. You might start with just lowering the bike. This will make it feel lighter. You can install shorter shocks, and lower the forks in the triple trees.

Tools gave a good idea. Lowering the bike will lower the center of gravity. If the bike is too tall, you can cut the seat foam down to reduce seat height.
Now to reduce actual weight.
Smaller turn/brake lights.
Later year wheel from other bikes that are lighter.
Take out the starter and go kick only.
Some remove the center stand but I do not like that idea. What if you get a flat or something out on the road? So a lighter, aluminum stand is my suggestion.
I do NOT suggest cutting anything from the frame as there is little you can remove without causing more flex.
Modify the front brake system to either use a thinner rotor or drill the stock rotor.
I would remove the stock gauges and put in a smaller, lighter, all in one unit for tach and mph.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
