Replacing brake fluid, 79 750

simonsoj
Hey,

I'm relatively new at working on my own bikes, and I just picked up a '79 CB750 that is low on brake fluid in the front. I was wondering if someone could give me a quick rundown on how to bleed the fluid and replace it (I don't have a manual yet).

Much appreciated!

Just use paper towel to remove the bulk of the fluid from the resivor. Then fill with clean fluid. Pump up the brake, and hold the lever. then crack the bleeder valve open. This will let the fluid squirt out, and the lever will go down. Hold the lever, and tighten the bleeder. Repeat until clean fluid comes out. Be sure not to let the resvior go dry though.

The best/easiest way I know is to get yourself one of these...

-Run a piece of clear hose from it to your bleeder screw on the caliper
-Don't open the bleeder yet!
-Bleed the air out of the hose-don't wanna be pumping air into your system
-Open the bleeder screw and pump away...
-Keep an eye on the reservoir and you'll see the fluid level rise (obviously)
-Periodically soak the fluid out of the reservoir until you get all the old fluid out and you are full of clean, clear fluid.

Way easier than I made it sound. Good luck, hope this helps!

Oops.We posted at the same time.

I still opt for the oil can method. The one that Tools taught me.

The oil can method is great for bleeding dry systems, but not really needed for replacing the fluid in a working system.

Would the oil can method be the prefered method of bleeding brakes when there is air suspected in the system or would they both work well?

I always use the oil can when I am bleeding air out of brakes.
