A lot less I'd guess, with no kids or wife or mortgage, I'd say gas, food and lodging would be ½ your expenses, then beer would take up the other half. LOL I bet could do it on $1500 a month for sure. (don't get a hotel every night, use the tent at least ⅔ of each month.

I'm self employed so retirement will be death for me....or the lottery-so i'm out on this discussion. What I really want to know is how you ( Mark) did those little 1/2 and 2/3 fractions like that.Sorry, but I'm easily amused.

Are you intending to become a vagabond or keep a home and ride from there? Does a house/mortgage own you? Any bank loans/credit cards? You don't have the biggest drain on resources, the ole lady.

I've been retirded for about three years, and if not for the little woman who has no idea what stuff costs, but wants it anyway I'd be well off on 2K a month.

Well, you estimate the average hotel at $70 a night, that doesn't leave you with many nights you can stay in a hotel if you want to stay in budget. The ½ comes from an estimate of what my income would be with side jobs on the road or social security check instead of a steady job in one place. I doubt I could pull down more than $18k a year with part time work like that funding the life on the road.

That, I do not know, it did it automatically as I posted. I'm not sure what caused it. There are other posters here using a Mac with OSX like me and Safari for a browser...maybe they'll try it and see if it's system specific or not.

You can do it on your PC with the Character Map feature of your OS. Not sure if it works within a browser, but it should work anywhere you can insert text. Come to think of it, I think I have my OS settings for the Character Palette to automatically convert fractions to their true text counterparts. That might be it.

Truck
If not getting an RV you can stay in cabins at campgrounds for around 30-40 a night.  I've also seen small, single campers you can tow behind your bike.
It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid

If I ever did what he's thinking about, regular showers would be a part of that deal. No sleeping in alleys and riding stinky for me!

        FOUND THIS peace of info

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
  Well, for example,
the other day, my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and I said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.. I called him a Dumb ass. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So Mary called him a moron. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Just then our bus arrived and we got on it and went home.

We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age

Yeah, ya gotta keep busy. Having a background in process engineering and a minor in chemistry I think I have found the perfect public service to provide.

I spend much of my time converting alcohol into urine, I know it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

Re: Retirement

Piute

My idea was to visit family and friends that I have all over the U.S. nothing in N.Carl.,Florida,Miss,Area
 But plenty west N north.
Ya see I just got back on the road 17-20 yr's ago ,spent time(3yr's) in wheel chair N (couple)learning to walk again(was mugged N in comma 3wk's) SO I lost lots of my time, witch should of been the best of my life.Riding wonting to ride my bike was what kept me going, had a 89 shovel and a 50 pan,and of course my Lil C B 650 that my sister still rides.
My memory is lot better and think I'm ready to hit the road finally,
Just to catch up on lost miles I think belong to me,East coast Those different mountain ranges and all the lakes up north around Main .YEP Sure I'm going to need a trike after a 1st winter on the road.

dreaming out loud could be happening too
