I put new brake pads on the front and now i have a constant high pitched rubbing noise and it appears the brake pads is constantly rubbing the disk. Any idea how to fix this or why this is going on? Bike is a 75 cb750F

Did you press the piston back into the caliper before installing the new pads? You need to reset it to accommodate the new pads. Remove the caliper, open the bleeder and press the piston back in. You can use a "C" clamp and the old pad to press it with if necessary. Close the bleeder and reinstall the caliper and you should be good to go.

i used c clamps but i dont recall if i opened the bleeder. So i assumed it just returned back to its place. Thanks.

I press mine in that way, but I don't open the bleeder. Air could get into the system. Also your piston could be corroded. This would prevent it from releasing the break.

Prior to replacing the pad i only had metal on metal sound when i applied the brake. Now its a high pitched whistling metal on metal sound constantly and it stops when i apply the brake. Can you explain what you mean by corroded? And would this have flipped when the noise occurred. Note: There was plenty of pad left on the old ones....im lost.

Corroded means it could be rusted inside the caliper. You might want to pop the piston out, and clean it. Be sure to coat it with silicone grease when putting it back in.

I've now got little air bubbles around the piston and the front brake handle never pumps up to pressure. I assume it needs to be rebuilt. Any idea where to find the parts to rebuild it and how to take the assembly appart?

vintagecb750.com Also get the special snap ring pliers from them, you will need them. Here is a link to a video on rebuilding the master cylinder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W24asyNujsTOOLS

Don't forget to replace the rubber o-ring in the caliper. While doing that, use a brass bristle brush or a dremel with said attachment and clean out the caliper. DOT3 fluid attracts moisture which builds up and causes the piston to no retract properly.
Have you ever rebuilt any part of the front brake? Do you still have the stock hose?
I would suggest cleaning the caliper, replacing the brake line(braided are awesome), and as tools said, rebuild the master.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

My brake was binding when I first got my '76 CB750 (it hadn't been used much). I just rode through it and it went away on its own.

In my process of rebuilding the master cylinder. The little ring that holds the black rubber sheeting around the piston is stuck expanded on the inside. I cant figure out how to get the little ring out. I'm not referring to the snap ring this is the little partial ring. Any suggestions...

Im just joined the squealing front brake club I cannot stand that noise! I rebuilt the master cylinder and the caliper due to both of them leaking. My pads were saturated with brake fluid so I replaced them with a set of Bikemaster brand pads.Brakes feel awesome now,but squeal nonstop when off the brakes.A tad bit of pressure on the lever shuts it up.Not much pressure, not even enough to slow the bike down any.I removed and double checked everything, chamfered the edges of the shoes(always worked on my cars) and put a little silicone brake stuff behind the pads. The stuff that is proposed to eliminate brake squeal. No better. If i adjust the caliper with a little slack on the inner pad it gets louder. If i adjust the caliper to a fair amount of pressure(too much, really) on the inner pad it SCREAMS.If i adjust the caliper to slight pressure on the inner pad it squeals/whistles constantly until pressure is applied like i said before.Under normal or full braking pressure it is completely silent.I'm lost...as usual.Any ideas?

Mine were silent before i "fixed" them. I will find a cure. I have googled this and keep hearing that is is the nature of these rotors. No way these bikes squealed like a pig from the factory.I expect a disc brake to squeal a little when braking occasionally.Especially when cold. But a constant squeal is unacceptable to me.I just wonder if it is the pucks and it will go away after they bed in?
Just to be clear. My brakes are squealing while OFF the brakes, not on them

Put a rubber band on the break lever, that way there will be a light pressure on the break to keep it from squealing. It might also help them to bed in. Mine squeal really bad when I apply the breaks.

As far as the brake noise.I worked on that today in stages to see what one element cured it.
Made sure the plastic ring was in place correctly(it was)- no help
Beveled the edges- no help
Hack sawed a groove parallel to the ground- no help
Multiple adjustments on the caliper position- no help
Verify that the swing joint was in good shape(it was) -no help
what the heck?!?!I then got to thinking about what has changed and where the new noise could have come from. The only thing other than having new pads is the fact that my old ones were saturated in brake fluid, therefore amply lubed. so...
Greased the pucks with copper anti-seize- cured! quiet as a mouse!A fair amount on the backs and a little around the edges.I'll see how long it lasts before i really call it a cure though.
Now I know that is not the best thing to have around a brake system but i didnt have any silicone grease and the closest jug is in town 30 miles away so...but it worked.Plus,i couldnt stand the thought of driving 30 miles with that noise
