SOHC or DOHC, which one is better?

wvhardtail
I have a line on both for my 75 hardtail project. Can I use either one in the frame and if so, which one is better? Have to admit I don't know much about either one.

The sohc is considered to have the "old school" look. It is virtually bulletproof and has a wide range of parts available for engine repairs or hop ups.
I the dohc is more modern though. The dohc supposedly has more power but once you get to the back wheel, I am not sure how much there is.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Thanks Re-Run! I found a whole 79 CB750 with a running engine and all the goodies I need to finish my build. Hopefully have it mocked up Sunday. I just hope the 79 will fit in a 72 frame. If not, I found a 73 with a non running engine. Guy said it's a spark issue. We'll see. Going to take my frame with me to make sure.

Thanks re-run. I picked up a 73 donor bike today. There was no way to stuff the 79 engine into the 72 frame without major mods. You are right though, definitely a more old school look.
