THESE OR

http://store.cokertire.com/popular-tire-applications/motorcycle/400-19-firestone-deluxe-champion-blackwall-tire.html

THESE

I really really like the firestones. But frankly, i'm concerned about cornering with them in say,,, the rain...
I will be using my bike, not looking at it in a showroom. So the First tires seem like they would be a little more gripy and still look classic.

Also, I'm ignorant to the size exactly I should get. I THINK, the 400, is what 4 inches wide?
and thats ok right? or should I be getting 375s or 450?

and the rear tire is 18 and the front 19 right? (74k)

Ok, thanks in advance. Also, if you have any suggestions on tires throw them at me. Keep in mind I like the front tire to be big and meaty like the rear, the closer in size the front and rear are, the better.. IMO

You can go 4.50 on the rear. I know a guy that has the Firestone (the second tire) on his bike. He says they follow rain groves, and expand at speed. They are best, for low speed, and parking. I do not know about the first, but it looks cool.

It means it goes with the rain groves, and not where, you want to go.

Tires can make or break any vehicle.
The diamond tread tire, those two smooth strips on it,thats exactly where on the tire my bikes does the most cornering.I say that according to where i see the gravel dust rubbed off by the blacktop.I wouldnt feel real comfortable with that myself.
The saw tooth tire looks just like the ones made for the front of drag cars. The old school front runners, anyway.Saw tooth is what we call them. They were designed for minimum rolling resistance, which obviously means: no resistance=no friction     no friction=no traction. The ones on the cars make a noticable zizz-ing sound, too. If you can hear it in a car id say it would be pretty loud on a bike. But that might be cool ,too.I know that YOU know how good a set of bias-ply TSL's sound.Tire noise is not always a bad thing.
City, these are my opinions only.I have no experience  with either one.
I'm definitely not a motorcycle tire expert, but alot of times the old tread patterns are old for a reason. They figured out they dont work so well.Im very happy with my Dunlops.Im not sure what a rain groove is exactly, but we definitely have plenty of tar snakes around here.Glides over them with ease.Though not as old school as those cokers, they dont look exactly modern either.I've laid the bike over far enough to feel it rock on the tread egde,so i'd say they hold pretty well.I havent rode WHILE it was raining. But i have rode on a wet rode with no problems.Low speeds though, didnt really prove much. The only thing i have noticed is the rear end feels a wee bit twitchy when it real cold out(15-20 degrees),so maybe cold weather grip is not all that great.I might be feeling frost on the road, doesnt do it until early morning(2-3 am).Not real sure. They ride smooth and silent.I wont change tires

Rain groves  are little cuts in the road. About 3/8 inch deep X 3/4 inch apart. They are supposed to challel off water, and prevent hydroplaning.

Rib's you got a set that would come on an 70s-80s H.D.factory boughtspot those any were there A medium hard tire ,Why no traction in cold,They just don't last for long high speed hwy.use like you'd / I thought(went thru a rear tire a month and front 6-7 month lots of 80-90 hwy speed trips,Was also said to light in the azz and was getting 1 full grab of revolution out off 10 tire pretty much spun So keep saddle bag full(heaver)
Ribs your front tire will follow with rain groves but not to bad but real scaryand no you wont get used to it,Your rear is great see how the tread cut don't continue all the way around ,
Lop makes the front you can even get to match that pattern (stock on H.D.now
You can even get it with raised white lettering saying HARLEY DAVIDSON

I only ride on Pirelli MT66 Route tires:  fantastic wet traction, very little squirliness on grated bridges, and on rain grooves, and great all around.  I had them on my Kawasaki 440, first, loved them so much I put them on my Honda.  When we bought our Voyager touring machine, we ordered a pair for it -- love these tires!

Here is a site with owner's reviews, on various tires.  Also, Google whatever tire types you are considering, for reviews.  Cheers!

The bounce i have is from the front end,not the rear.I think it may be a little out of balance on that tire.

OK, after the feedback I think I'm going to get these...

I looked at some newer tires, and just don't like the patterns with the old school look of the bike.
One thing I am surprised to see is that, every tire I have looked at is bias ply.. is that because they use tubes? I would think at least the newer tires would be radials.

And yea I know the sound of TSLs on pavement, that's too much sound.. way too much. not even a Jeep Cherokee could keep that noise out. But then again, if you have TSLs your truck shouldn't be on pavement at all, they would just evaporate, ESP, if you have the bias ones.

There are a lot of tires that are tubeless, but bias ply.  Radial tires have a different structure, and use a different rim design (bead seal), from bias ply tires -- they are not interchangeable...  Radial tires tend to be used more on heavier, touring bikes, and maybe sport bikes, but bias ply are still very popular (my '93 Voyager 1200cc touring bike runs on bias ply, and so did the 2003 version of it; don't know about the current 1700cc Voyager).  Also, you can put tubes in a tubeless tire:  the tube will run warmer, but not enough to cause failures, or concern.  In other words, you are not limited to "tube-type" tires only.  Cheers!

anyone here ever balanced a motorcycle tire before?
I been looking at the setups, and the whole process is very simple, But it looks like You could just do it on the frame, so long as it was off the ground, level, and the chain wasn't attached.
ANyone done that?
