Today it's not smoking at all........no rhyme or reason to this.  Anyone ever use Restore oil treatment for this problem?
Did it finally burn all of the oil out of the tank? Just teasing.

I have actually seen cars with low compression that people put that stuff in. It helped alot more than I ever thought possible. I don't know if the results are lasting or temporary, though.

sounds like just a shit ton of blow by. maybe a piston ring is worn out and when the rings reach a certain point it then allows it to smoke. heck idk.... how do the plugs look? compression test?

The plugs are oily....no compression test yet

sounds like a classic case of blow by to me. oil seeping pass the rings at high rpms. most likely compression tests will read low. you may try and put some marvel oil or any oil/seafoam/additive of your choice into the cylinder heads, turn over by hand using the bolt on the alternator rotor, and let soak for a few hours or overnight then turn by hand again and go ride. could be just a ring sticking in the groove allowing for oil to blow past. id try that first. yes it will smoke like hell when you first fire it up but it should stop shortly after. also maybe switch to a thicker oil like 15s-50. the thicker oil wont be able to get past the ring as easy. or you can just go ahead and change out the rings. but its for sure a piston issue if the plugs are oily and its smoking aka buring the oil

I'll try the 15w50 oil but the rebuild is out of my budget right now.  Also may try the stuff in the cylinders too.  How much in each cylinder and is seafoam a good one to use?  Are there different seafoams than the one you add to gas tank or is that the one?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like 15w50 only comes in synthetic and I don't really know if I want to go that way.  Any info as far as 15w50 in Regular oil

the motul 15w 50? i got it in a light blue bottle and its not synthetic. got it from my local cycle gear.

use 2 or 3 oz's in each cylinder of marvel oil. put a little bit in your oil (5 oz's or so) and some in the gas as well.

seafoam is ok for cleaning out carbs and such but i dont find it does quite as well when putting it in the cylinder head.

motul oil

i bought a race blend i believe. ill take a picture of the bottle when i get home

How about 20w50 oil?  Would that be ok?

We'll, changed the oil to 20w50 and changed the filter.  Put 2oz. Of marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and turned the crank over a few times and the stuff squirted out of number 4!  I think there is still a bunch in there and I am going to let it sit for a few days before I fire up the bike.  The photo shows plugs 1 and 4 with oil fouling and numbers 2 and 3 have a reddish color.  Will let you know how things turn out!

Never been much of a fan on the
"stops smoking with one can" stuff.
Most of that has alcohol in it, which softens and swells the rubber seals.
Which then wear out all together in about a month.

You need to quit messing around and get a compression test.
Call any shop and get a price, it's not that hard.
If the rings are shot, nothing but new rings is gonna help.
Oily plugs, not a good sign.

It may be sucking oil down thru the valve guides.
If there's a place for the oil from the breather tubes to collect,
my dohc has a small can under the airbox,
make sure that's not full.

Fired the bike up today....been almost a week.  You were right, smoked like crazy!  Still smoking a bit... How long should I expect it to continue before it it all burned off?

5, 10 minutes on the road, run it up to 7 or 8 grand a few times should do it.

You're not letting it just sit there in the garage overheating are you?

i let mine just idle until it quit smoking the first time, second time i ran it up to redline a couple times on an old deserted road and cruised around 5k for about 3 miles and it was fine.

I let it idle for about 15 min until most of the smoke was gone.  Then I took it for a short tide down the block and back at maybe 3 grand, nothing much.  Did not overheat though

Re: SU-MO-KIN!

it wont overheat lol. 3k might not have been enough. you have to really romp on it to clear the carbon buildup on the pistons. especially what the oil loosens up.
