Thought that would get your attention.
The 1978 PD carbs that have the push in jets is what I am talking about.
When the float is 14.5 mm or .570 thousandths above the carb body, when the carb is upside down,
the bottom of the float just happens to line up with the top of the idle jet exactly!
NOTE: do NOT push down on the float to make this happen.
Also check and make sure that the float bowls all have the drains facing outwards
on each side of the bike. Mine were wrong from the time I got the bike and just noticed it.
#1 and #4 float bowls can get mixed up.
One more thing.
The velocity stacks that I got had three small set screws to attach them to the carb.
Make sure that one of the three screws is facing straight down so that it positions the
other two screws in a place on the carb rim that is stronger.
If you have one of the three screws facing straight up that top screw (if over tightened ),
can dent the rim of the carb. use Locktite on the set screws.
Just tighten until they touch not any more. There is a small lip that will prevent the set screw
from sliding off the carb.
