Who keeps a pet turkey anyways.........Its never a good feeling to shoot and kill an animal, but sometimes it has to be done. I personally have had to shoot a pit bull that charged me, I didnt enjoy it but I definitely wouldnt have enjoyed being mauled either.  Turkeys are evil birds lol, but they are tasty!
I know enough to get me in trouble.

Toolbabe and I have had several pet turkeys in the past (only a few chickens now) and never has anyone been mauled by one.

What the news media conveniently left out is that this is how the officer was approached by Mr Camo.

I rest my case.

This kind of thing always pisses me off. The cops ALWAYS feel they HAVE to do something right then and there. How about just leaving and trying to contact the owner by phone? It was just a trash complaint, NOT a hostage situation where they NEEDED to access the property no matter what. Was the cop just too much of a tough guy and didn't want to admit he ran away from a turkey? Totally preventable with just a few ounces of common sense.

Absolutely right!

A trash complaint so the officer used deadly force? Wow.

In California a policeman shot a homeless man who was running from
a convenience store after stealing a candy bar.

The homeless man who was shot from behind had his knee blown up,
and the bill cost $265,000 dollars.
A judge ruled against the police and said, "stealing a
candy bar did not warrant the use of deadly force."

I also try, but with two photographer/blogger/journalist friends running two blogs about abusive cops violating citizens rights, with force, and losing in court with the departments having to pay large settlement after large settlement....well, the documented cases of violence on citizens by authority figures is on the rise nationwide at an alarming rate. I don't want to generalize either, but the more I see, the more my opinion slides. I even had a cop pull a gun on me during a speeding stop! (50 in a 45, and I pulled over almost immediately, windows were down so the tint wasn't blocking their view, etc.) It's getting out of control.

The police in Oakland CA where I live shoot people regularly, and have killed several innocent kids (yes kids) over the past few years. Moral is apparently at rock bottom because no one in the community trusts them.  Sees is right, in general, but Mark's comment is spot on.  Everyone needs to be accountable for their actions - everyone.
