Shiney - question about the worx

seestheday
Did you use it on your cv carbs?  Any issues?  There are a number of rubber o-rings (like on the fuel rails).  Do those need to be removed before using the worx?

All my carbs are round tops. I dont know what it'd do to rubber, but the stuff is pretty harsh. I wouldn't risk it myself.Well, very harsh. Brass parts can go in at full strength with no issues. The aluminum parts I do 1:4 ratio-worx-water. Dip for 10 or 15 seconds then rinse. The bowls on the roundtops are not aluminum.I think maybe they are zinc?? It'll literally burn the chrome off and cause the insides to melt if left in,or unrinsed for too long. You know you can put aluminum foil and toilet bowl cleaner in a bottle and make a bomb? Well, same thing here. The worx actually is dissolving the aluminum.

I'm warning you man. The worx cuts varnish like MAD! but it's kinda hardcore.

Naptha is what Tools turned me on to and it works pretty good. Not harmful and evaporates quick and clean.Pretty low odor ,too. I tried the Pinesol once and it was the biggest slimiest mess to clean up behind I ever saw

FWIW-I still use the Worx. But with caution!

Hoosier Daddy
Is this what you guys are talking about? Couldn't find "worx" other than Craftsman tools.

I've used it to clean the inside of rusted gas tanks with good results, lots of rinsing afterwardsbut would NOT use it on aluminum.

Nope.No twin cams for me.Too complicated I get Naptha from Lowes. It's more or less just paint thinner or low odor mineral spirits.Pretty mild stuff.

Hoosier, thats the stuff. And yeah,it can be pretty brutal on aluminum. Like I said, use with caution!

Ya, way too many rubber gaskets etc on the cv carbs for me to risk it. I also don't like the idea of dissolving the aluminum even a little bit. Way too many tiny passages to mess up.

I'll pick up some naphtha soon.

I used Pinesol on my CV carbs when cleaning 'em up. Just make sure you clean out every. Freaking. Passage.

It actually gunked up the fuel rail to the point that it wasn't getting any fuel down the tube to #4 cylinder. Talk about a large tube to gunk up.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

I tried Shineys "Worx" on a set of carbs. I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!! I only use carb cleaner, or Naptha. However I also learned my lesson about CV carbs. That is to find someone with a sonic cleaner, and pay them to clean them. Usually around $50.00 for a set.

Harbor Freight sells a nice little sonic cleaner for about $60. It will only hold one carb at a time and its an unheated model, but Ive seen it used on motorcycle carbs with good success. 1:1 mix of water and 409.

And yes,the Works is admittedly violent.

I cannot seem to find Naptha anywhere here in Canada (or the works for that matter).

I picked up some varsol to try out.  Don't worry - no furnace or fire anywhere in my garage, and I have a fire extinguisher ready just in case.

When I was looking through the paint strippers (none in the solvents areas) I did find some stripper that contained some naptha along with a bunch of other junk I wasn't sure was safe.
