Shorter Clutch Cable

I just mounted a pair of clubman bars on my 77' Honda Cb750F and re-routed the clutch cable, there is quite a bit of slack and will definitely need a shorter one. Are there any other Honda bikes that will have compatible clutch cables that are a bit shorter? I read that some people can cut the end off of a clutch cable and weld it back together, but someone told me this was a bad idea...

On a quick look, I would one that was 3.5 inches shorter than stock.
