Should I buy this 1980 cb750F

sch071
Hi from "almost" proud owner of 1980 CB750f super sport.
I am about to check this bike tomorrow afternoon. Asking price $1200.
Brand new tires, carbs just have been "ultrasounded", cleaned. According to seller runs great.
I know headlight is wrong ( should be round). 16000 miles on odo and almost new 4 in 1 pipes conversion.
This site, by the way, is awesome. So much info @ one place should be ilegal. Best regards, any thoughts more than welcome.

Nice looking bike. Be sure to check the charging system.

Buy it! Course I'm like a dog looking for my first 750 so probably not the most subjective but having looked at 750's for the past 2 months that's not a bad price for a low mileage nice looking and presumably well maintained 750.

If anyone knows of a 750 at a reasonable price in the UK, preferably a '79, please let me know.

It looks like it has pod filters on it.  Consensus is that the factory constant vacuum carbs run best with the stock airbox, but can be made to run by changing jets and making adjustments. Best way to check is with a test ride.  If it seems to accelerate well and doesn't stumble, you're _probably_ OK.  See if you can pull 1 or 2 spark plugs after the ride to check the insulator color.  It should be a very light tan, if memory serves.

Other than that, cosmetically, it looks very nice and a good daily driver.  I'd see if he could come down a little bit, but I'm just cheap that way.   I got mine 18 months ago for $500.

Welcome to the forum.  I hope you enjoy it and come back soon.

Check access to the oil filter:  if you have to drop the exhaust pipes to change the filter, think long and hard about it.  If you run full synthetic oil, you can put a minimum of 7,500 miles on it, between changes, and possibly 10k, or more, with oil analysis.  That will reduce the frequency of dropping the exhaust, but it will still be a major hassle.  Cheers!
