Starter Clutch?

Jreed615
I have a 1981 CB750 Custom. I recently replaced the starter and the starter gears. The bike worked fine for awhile bu now the bike is starting to make an awful sound when I try to start it. It seems like it does it more when it is hot. I was thinking this could be the starter clutch. I have found a few on ebay but they are for 82 models. Will a 1982 starter clutch work on my 1981 motor? Any input would be greatly apperciated.

Well tell you the truth I am not sure BUT I would assume the starter parts are all the same. There were all pretty close to the same in the 69-78 years. Using the same parts across years keeps costs lower.

As for the ignition, I would just replace it. No one really ever disassembles them and so it would be hard to say but I would assume it is a contact switch of some sort.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Check the Factory Service Manual, available on the home page.  It is free, and the best available.  Cheers!
