Steering Box Adjustment

Gene
I have a 1981 300D.   I want to make an adjustment to the steering box. The lock nut will come loose, but the adjustment screw within the lock nut turns with it because the two seem to be frozen together. And yes, I am using WD-40.

Can I unscrew the locking nut and take it out with the adjustment screw, try to loosen them up, and then put the nut and scfrew back into the steering box, and then make my adjustment?  Or will this mess the steering up entirely?

Well, my first recommendation would be to find the correct forum for the Mercedes Benz 300D.

Having said that, I am unable to comment further, as I (and probably every other guy on this CB750 forum) have little or no experience with your particular problem.

(I know...I'm a smartass...forgive me, Lord)

Gene Yes you can remove them both together.  It wont hurt a thing, put it in a vise once you get it out an break it loose.  Heat it up with a torch if you cant get it other wise.

I ditto what Daddyman said. But,my experience with GM boxes, yours may be different, expect the steering wheel to be off center afterwards(counter clockwise)and you will lose some steering travel to the left.Like i said, that is for GM boxes, yours may vary.Good luck.  Come on back some time....bring a Honda with you
