Thought i bought a 900 but its a 750 with a 900 motor.

Hi guys im a new member who recently bought a 1980 CB900F or so i thought. When i got it home i had a better look at it and discovered its a 1980 CB750FZ with a 900 motor in it. I was a bit disappointed at first but don't really mind now. Im still looking forward to getting it going as its been neglected for a decade. Is there anything i should be concerned about or is it common to put a 900 engine in a 750 frame. Also what year would the engine be with this number SCOIE-2202728

Welcome to the forum. Interesting!

I do not know much about the 900 engines. However I am sure that some searching, for the engine number will come up with some results. I do have to ask, how do, you know it is a 900? Like I said I do not know much about the 900, but I thought they had two shift levers. One, for the gears, and another, for hi, and low range.

The dual lever is on the custom. The others are normal 5 speed.

The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I thought all of the 900's were Custom models? The 900C's all had the OEM oil coolers, which this engine appears to have. I guess I would visit the Custom forum for help on this one. I'd recommend making judicious use of the search function before posting anything there -- that forum has been around for a long while, and it has a huge amount of postings to be mined for information. Cheers!

Hi mate the engine has 901cm3 stamped on the back near the starter motor and the engine no is a 900 number, its all good because it has 900 carbs aswell.

There was a cb900f made from 79-83.

I have a 1982 cb900f forsale just about running needs carb cleand calipers and master cylinder and ignition I just put new motor have the other in pices have tittle and asking 950obo I'm located I'm Haverhill mass and u can reach me at shizzlit454@uahoo.com willing to take trade for 80's running project car let me know what you wanna do always checking my email thank you
