Ok guys and gals, I really need your recommendations for tires on my '79 k.
Currently, the pair I have are cracked and starting to push my limits of comfort for safety.
I also seem to have and "odd" pair as the front is 100/90-19 (this one is normal for the bike), rear is 130/90-17 ( this one is and inch smaller than stock and everything I find in the 17 is at least 50 bucks more ).
So any suggestions on tires would be great as I have very little experience with bike tires.
Thanks all,
Chris

What do you mean by an inch smaller then stock? Your bike uses a 130/90 17 rear tire. I like the Dunlop 401 tires myself. I have run them for years now without any complaints.

I have used the shinko 712 tires and they worked as well as anything else that I have used. I have also used bridgestone spitfires and they were fine. I go to motorcycle-superstore.com to get them online. Over 100 used to be free shipping, I think it still may be.

Thanks guys, I will check out these and others.
Tools, all the tire sites I have checked out bring up an 18 inch tire for my bike not the 17. I made the assumption that my rear wheel has been swapped by a PO. So I have to manually pick the size. And they all seem to be more expensive than the 18 inch of the same type.

The "K" model went to a 17" rear in 77.

Thanks for the input guys. After reading the reviews and price shopping I think the shinoko 712 is the way to go. I am not riding enough to justify stepping up to the next level right now. Hopefully by the time they need to be replaced my budget won't be as tight.

IMO, the Shinko's are great tires, even if they are priced low. The 712's I had on my '76 were getting around 3500 miles on a rear, but I'm hard on rear tires. I wore out three rears and never replaced the front.
They are inexpensive, but I don't consider them cheap.

That is expensive compared to the 15-20 K miles I get on the Dunlop 401's.

Depends on your level of burnouts, I suspect. My 712s probably got 5k on them and the only reason they need replacing is age. My cb has been out for a while as I slowly amass parts for an extensive rebuild. I have no reason to doubt that I would get close to 8000. Must also remember that the vast majority of this is flat, straight roads in my area and so tires get squared off from the middle taking all the wear from lack of corners.

Well I wont be doing any burnouts, I cant afford the tires or tickets . AZ police are not nice to people who play on the roads. I think I will be pleased to get 6000 miles on a set at this price point. Like I said, I won't be riding enough just right now to justify an up-grade. Next year money should be in better shape and I will have a good feel for these. I had looked at a set of Pirelli Diablos, but the rear cost more than a set of the Shinokos .

I will never use pirelli diablos ever again. I had them on my fz6. They were an OK tire, but honestly, for their price, they were no better than the shinko verge 2s I put on. And once the temp dropped below 50, they were like riding on ice. Almost lost it on a dry paved corner at 10 mph, when it was about 45 degrees. The shinkos haven't done that. To be fair, the spitfires didn't either.

Good to know. I don't get much winter here, but I will be taking road trips to the mountains on occasion and expect I will run into some cooler weather there.

Dunlops last like truck tires because they are made of the same. hard compound. lol
I got tired of sliding around on my Dunlops. But every riding style needs different rubber.

I think that is part of the reason why harley uses dunlops for their stock tires. That's why I am switching to dual compounds whenever I can. Harder rubber in the middle for longer life, softer on the edges for better cornering traction. Best of both worlds, and with shinko, only a bit more expensive. Not sure if they have any in our sizes yet.
