Pirelli MT 66 Route tires are reasonably priced, virtually ignore tar snakes, cracks, grated bridges, etc., for the first 5,000 miles or so, and then they still handle well on that stuff. They behave as though they are glued to the road in full rain, riding two-up, with a heavy load of gear on the bike. I've gotten 10,000+ miles from them so far, with another several thousand likely before I replace them (unless they reach the three-year mark, when the rubber hardens, and they should be replaced due to age alone). They run around $90 rear, $86 front, from
Motorsycle-Superstore. I may go Darkside on my touring bike, but otherwise, they are all I want to ride on -- they're that good. I've ridden the MT66's on three bikes: 1983 Kawasaki 440LTD, 1979 Honda CB750K, and a 1993 Kawasaki Voyager XII touring bike (exceptional performance on all three, very different bikes). YMMV. Whatever tire you are interested in, be sure to search for reviews of them on the Internet. Cheers!
