I am rebuilding my carbs (DOHC CB750C). Do I really need the vacuum assisted petcock?

Ditch it.  I took mine off and havent looked back.  Just remember to turn the petcock off whenever you shut off the bike and your good.  Some might say you dont have to turn it off, but I do, and its not a bad idea to get in that habit IMO.

I never turn petcocks off. If the needles leak, they need repaired! Also as long as the needle is seated nothing can get between the needle, and seat to ruin that seal.

Thanks, guys! Looking at the thing I didn't think I actually needed it for the carbs to function. Thought I'd see what others had done.

But how many times do you hear "I turned my gas on, and it started leaking?" You never hear "I left my gas on, and it started leaking."

You know, it just dawned.on me that my dohc doesn't have a vacuum petcock on it. Just a standard on-off-res. So I looked through the paperwork for the bike and discovered that it has a CB900 petcock on it.

Something to consider, I guess.
