Hey, all. I recently took on a very cool project but have a question. A friend acquired a hill-climb trike. Its a cb750 motor and partial frame, with a four-wheeler rear half. The thing is about nine feet long and very neat. But the number 2 carb overflowed and the bike caught on fire destroying all the wiring in the middle of the harness. I have just about finished rewiring the bike but there are a few wires dangling with no homes. i got online to find a wiring schematic but here's my issue. The engine is stamped cb750E. The last numbers of the vin are 76 so I assume this is the year since none of the other numbers would make any sense at all. I did some poking around but can't find models other than the K, F and A. Anyone have any knowledge of this? And, if so, would the wiring be the same throughout the different models? The ONLY thing I could find online was a page with pics of E-stamped motors with bikes that were called "The French Connection". Maybe built for sale in France? I have no idea. I also found that the E engines were sand-cast, but that could be the same for all the models. Any ideas?

E = Engine.
Why don't you go buy a workshop manual, it has all of the wiring diagrams in it.
Also if you type in the words CB750 wiring diagram into Google you will have many choices.
Just click on IMAGES. Not web results ....IMAGES
Too bad you could not show us a photo of your machine.
Better clean the carbs or those floats could stick again.
It may need 4 new float needles if cleaning them does not work.

Most every CB 750 engine has an "E" in the serial number. Only the "A's, and some "F's" have a different letter in the serial number. I would rewire it with this simplified wiring diagram.

I have a manual. And three google images schematics already. I was just trying to figure out the E designatation. And whether or not there was any significance for that motor. There is no K, A, or F in the serial number or I would've disregarded the E altogether. I will take a few pics the next time I am over there.

Oh and I am also rebuilding carbs and replacing the needles and seats anyway.

The only engines that were sandcast, were the early 1969 models, as far as I know -- they're collector pieces because so few were made! I hope that is not a genuine sandcast engine... Did you check the plate on the steering head? It will have the model, and year, stamped in it. That's assuming the engine goes with the frame you still have the engine attached to.
Honda tried to standardize their wiring by using color-coded insulation: black, black-white, black-yellow, red, red-green, etc. If you have some of the original wires that are looking for a home, try tracking them down by their color coding compared to the schematic's color listings. Barring that, you could apply the process of elimination/verification... Tedious, but thorough. Cheers!

Ya if that is a sandcast you could make a lot of money parting it out or selling it complete. That said it sounds like its unlikely because you also said it was a 76.

I am guessing it is a 76. Only because the last numbers in the vin are 76. I need to get my hands on that vin and get some more info.

Ok here is the complete vin: cb750E-2524176. I'm having trouble finding anywhere online that can decode this. I read a post from TOOLS stating he had all the Honda vins memorized lol. So, tools?
