What do you guys do for new wireing harness

Ghost-Flame
Hi Gents and ladies,
I got the tank sealed with por-15 did the whole procedure over 2 days. I'm glad I don't do that every day.

I am starting to evaluate the electrical system. It works but, all the plastic parts are brittle and the wire is all dirty and I don't want to put "old wine into new wineskins". I want new wires to go with all the other new stuff

Mark 2:22
And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
Mark 2:21-23 (in Context) Mark 2 (Whole Chapter)

I don't want old wine or new wine , for that matter, messin' up my new work

Anway now that I've got that out of the way. Is there anyone out there that can assemble me a new wire harness and all the ancilarry wire harnesses? I checked the usual suspects on line and I can't find any that promote OE or custom OE wire harness.

I have another idea, tell me how feasible this is.

I thought about taking my wire harness laying it out on my bench and replacing one wire and wire end(s), circuit at a time making them up as I go solder and shrink tube do you think this makes sense and are the different wire ends still available.

Using the original harness as a guide assemble another right next to it..

I know some of the connectors are still available, but I am not sure where to get them. I think there was a link on the forum here a while back that had them. I used to jig up wiring harnesses with a sheet of plywood, and some nails. Lay it out on the plywood, and put the nails at the points where it splits/bends, or ends.

The replacement harnesses are fairly cheap for what you get. I think VintageCB750.com sells them for about $75.

But since your is gonna get modified you probably dont want to cut up a newly paid for harness.I wouldnt blame you.Replacing wire by wire is never a bad idea, but wire is expensive.I would almost bet that you could buy a replacement harness for the same price-if not cheaper-than the materials to rebuild yours.

The new harness is only $75 and saves a LOT of time, but if you want to redo your own, laying them side by side is a good idea. The connectors ARE available from the vendors listed on this site, and I agree with Piute that soldering is the way to go. When I do my custom harness on the cafe project, anything I don't solder in the harness will have the original style plastic block plug and receptacle assemblies replaced with the more modern and waterproof GM weatherpak connectors. They're a little more expensive, but they're not just water resistant, use the right size rubber grommet for the wire and they're every bit at waterproof as a soldered and heat shrink covered connection.

I will check out the other sites as well. Piute I know how to solder, maybe not the best but, I can do it!

MarkPBG,
If I don't use the premade harness I'll look into those connections

I was actually looking forward to doing this thing wire-by-wire. The cost on something like this isn't too much of a big deal, especially If I learn something

I'm in the start of a new harness myself yes wire by wire going over the diagrams now and check # of hot wires for plugs water proof of course but individual sets for each cluster or were it's at left /right  side grip ?instead of going to headlight is going under tank.

My job at Possitronics is to make plugs/connectors for military .We call them subs and cost about min 400 to 3k ..company of 100 employ.clears 180k a wk and I get min wage.most all is gold and water poof.

So I know it can be done cheap.and up to date.
Now if Radio Shack sold wire connectors (with soldering cups)instead of phones

                                                 All has to be done

Here's a nice diagram I found for the 750 DOHC. I think it would be helpful .

Alot has changed since I 1st started my wiring at 1st thing getting bike in 7/24/11,most of it is hanging out my bike (as posted in my build)having to cut in "Y"female connectors for baggs(winker/running)N cust.tail-light,cust side makers.
I've done tricks to my wiring that I ,
My starter is hooked to neutral light plus
I run 2wires were 3 are the norm. These are mods that are not to be dubbed unless complete understanding of reason ,that is so not to be stolen/hot wired,But wires there (if keys lost)
My harness looks the same as stock but thoughs empty holes(spaces in stk.plug are filled, other's may be dead(purposely)
                                             All my buys for wiring
            http://www.cb750supply.com/products/5/electrical/64/wire-terminals-couplers
I've changed as many plugs as possible as I get to them,Am making A small harness To hook to my Tit fairing,Have and usingA fairing weight/vibration box to put wires in.
