What in the world is this?

FastCletus
The headline said 1980 Cb 750/900???
I looked at bike found out it was 750 (by 748 cc on engine)
Bought forks for 1980 Cb 750, Forks too small ( I have 37mm forks)
researched it and thought I had an 81 CB 750 F My bike has 2 front rotors not one. So I thought correct.
Just found out from Title research off of engine and frame # and paper says 1979.
Is there a such thing as a 79 CB 750 F with 37 mm forks and dual front rotors, and rear disc???

Going to be a bitch buying parts for  a bike I don't know what model it is?

My '80 750f has dual discs and rear disc. However, the forks are 35mm -I believe this is the fork size for all 750's.
Now I do have a 900 also, and I know at least the c model comes with 37mm forks stock.
So, I would venture to say you have a cb750 with a 900 front end.

I have to go with fractional adolescent bovine on this. CB 750 with CB 900 forks. However does yours have two, or four studs on each leg, for the axle clamp?

Tools, I think you are right.
The forks are also air assisted.  The question now is what year they are?  I need to replace the fork oil, and not sure what weight to put in and how much per fork.  Internet says 80 has 9.8 oz and 81 has 9.5 oz.  Dumb question but is that per fork?  Do you use ATF or 5 w fork oil?

Re: What in the world is this?

Yes, it is per fork.  Dexron III/IV/V ATF and fork oil have viscosity stability in common:  they both maintain their viscosity, very accurately, no matter the temperature, within their operating range.  You can use Dexron III/IV/V ATF, or whatever fork oil weight you choose (5-20, typically).  The ATF allegedly clocks in at 8 weight, by the way.  The higher the viscosity (the higher the number), the stiffer the fork response to bumps.

Honda used Dexron ATF because it was readily available, inexpensive (~$4/quart, today's prices), and it works.  If you go with fork oil, expect to pay around $12+/quart, buying it in specialty (MC) shops.

No matter what hydraulic fluid you put into your forks, expect to replace it every two years.  It does wear out, with use/abuse.  It is easy to do, and it helps with traction (the forks, and the shocks, help keep the rubber in contact with the road, tracking bumps, to keep the shiny side up...) -- comfort is a pleasant side-effect.  Cheers!

Ditto what Sarg said. There is not much difference between 9.5, and 9.8. I would go with the 9.8. The .3 is not going to hurt anything.

Ok, a new guy here but a very similar question. I picked up a basket case  1980 cb750. think its a 750F from a  RC04 stamped on the frame, but it has a 900 engine in it. My question is it has 39mm fork tubes on it with dual discs and two bolt axle caps and it looks like the rotors are about 11inches. Anyone have ideas on what this could be from? im thinking a cb1000c???
