What's your gas mileage?

Tate
I have a 1975 CB750F Super Sport... I get 22MPG on highway and 18 in town. What is the best MPG that you get or the best you've heard of for my make and model...how was that good gas milage achieved? I am well aware that with a older bike that I won't be getting 100MPG but I should be getting better milage than what I'm getting...right? Thanks for the info.

I have a 76F with semi open 4-1 and pods.18-48 gearing. I've never gotten below 37 mpg. I normally get 40+ mpg and i run it pretty hard most every time I ride. I did get 47 mpg once while babying a bad chain.

Run SeaFoam through the gas tank, first:  at $9 per 16 oz. can, it is less money than any other potential solution.  Follow directions, between 1-1.5 oz. per gallon of gasoline.  It will dissolve minor varnish deposits, absorb water, etc., ensuring a clean, efficient, fuel system.

I averaged 43 MPG highway, riding two-up, 95% of the time, with a full fairing, on my '79 CB750K.  Anything below 34 MPG, is suspect.  Start with the simple, least expensive troubleshooting techniques, and work your way up to the most expensive, most complex solutions.  Cheers!

Best tank 52, average 35 [once I caught on to a shorter warm-up], last tank 25 [colder weather longer warm-up]

Re: What's your gas mileage?

I maxed at 46 MPG a couple weeks ago, commuting daily at 50 mph.  My '76 bike is still stock except for the rear rack with back rest.  I would shift up at around 3,000 RPMs, going real easy on the gas to let the engine pick up speed nice and easy.  I pay close attention to traffic signals to coast as much as possible to red lights instead of screeching to a halt at them.  I'm fairly slim, last I checked I was around 140 lbs.  I keep my tires at 30 psi, I really believe tire pressure affects mpg.

Ever since a buddy's bike started smoking real bad, I decided to be gentle on my engine since it is extremely useful, cheap, and fun for commuting and cruising.  I still need to try Seafoam.

Hypermiling (google this) fans will do the following to stretch out even more miles per gallon:
1) Shut the engine off when coasting to a red light.
2) Lean as far down as possible
I find these steps overkill, so I haven't tried them.

I just figured mine at 38.  Most of my riding is 4500 to 7500 asl, and I'm probably way to big for this 79 750F at 6'4 and weigh 300.  I don't remember it getting that much better mileage 33 years ago when I bought it and weighed 250, although I rode it much harder then.

Actually, I fell on a freeway on ramp coming home from work in 1987.  After my wife spent half the night picking asphalt chunks out of my hide,  she pressured me to stop riding.  I eventually pushed it into the garage and that is where it sat until last spring.  The engine was dry seized, and with some advice from guys on the board here, I got it broke loose.  Then a bunch of rebuild kits, new rubber and battery, some carefully chosen obscenities uttered at full volume,  and viola!  She's back on the road.  I've put a measley 700 on since getting the old girl running again, but starting to push out a little further as I get more confident that she's not going to quit on me.  Last loop was 139 miles
