What was your first bike?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but if so lets do it again!  I'll Start i off.

My first bike was a '76 (we think) yamaha 400.  POS!  I took it more as a dare than anything else. Got it running pretty good, but never wanted to fix it up nice so we used it for running around in the country around where I grew up. Exaust was a $5.00 piece of pipe I got at Track Auto, she was loud as hell let me tell you! My seat consisted of an old folded up rag bunged to the frame so I didn't have to sit on the battery. After a few months the starter went bad so I always parked it on a incline, redneck mechanics right there! But I had one hell of a time with that bike and will always remember her fondly.

Started REALLY small on a Honda Aero 125 scooter. 2nd bike was a '99 Suzuki GSX600F (Katana), and now my 1974 CB750. I will break this "one bike at a time" thing and get a second one going soon. :)

My first bike was a used 98 yamaha xt350.  I believe I blew the motor in the second year with too much highway riding, rebuilt the motor and then it blew up 400kms later so that was the end of that.  I've had the cb750 for about 6 years and I'm also always on the lookout for a 2nd bike as well.  No car$, I live downtown ;)

First bike was a Huffy.  It was a bicycle.  First bike I worked on was a early 70s Triumph Bonneville 650, which belonged to a school chum.  He joined the Army, and it went away.  First bike I outright owned was my '79 CB750L.  Now the proud owner of a '84 Honda Shadow VT700C.

My first bike was a 1937 Norton 500cc single piston hardtail, an old army bike. I got it in 1965 from some friends of my brother and spent the next 2 years building it with their help. I only got to ride it for a little over one season 'cause some SOB stole it. My brothers friends put out the word but no one ever found it so they got me a '49 BSA 250 twin, also on baskets. I never got that one on the road, having to go to college.

But some days I really do miss that old Norton.

Mine was a '87 KTM 125 MX at 13 years old. Not mine,of course,but it was identical to this pic.



Notoriously famous for limp side stand springs. I eventually just took the thing off and parked next to trees. I never broke a single part on that bike (amazingly) but I did wear out several top ends. Probably 5-6 ring/piston/cylinder jobs in about 2-3 years time.lol. I loved that bike. I miss that bike. Sold it and bought a '93 KTM 125 EXC which endured equal abuse/rebuilds. Sold that and stepped up to a '94 KTM 250 EXC. <- That bike was insanely strong. 5th gear wheelies at will without having to fan the clutch. Just roll on the throttle and up she came! Never could ride it hard enough to wear it out. Sold it to a high school buddy who put a trailer hitch on it and still uses it to haul firewood to this day. Hauling trailer loads of firewood with a 2 stroke...that should speak for itself. Finally made my way to street bikes and a SOHC CB750 landed in my lap. I do believe I'll be on CB's from here on out...though I do have a soft spot for Katoom's to this day. Can you say KTM 1290 Superduke R Patriot Edition?I can.my wallet can't. 440 lbs of Austrian V-twin goodness. 175 Hp & 90 ft lbs/tq to be exact.

We had it when I was little and my dad used to give me rides. I would sit on the very front part of the seat and put my both my feet in the "u" of the bars. But alas, we sold it when I was still young.

My real first bike is my current 1980 cb750f

1979 Yamaha 650 special. It was bone stock except the PO had put a rear tire that barely fit on it.  I painted it bright yellow, put drag bars on it, and drove it everywhere. I had no idea how cool the bike realy was, but I loved it.  One of my favorite memories on that bike was from the same summer I bought it. A friend and I were out for a ride (him on an 750 magna).  We hit a strait stretch and I tucked up and gave her some juice. I had her topped out at about 150kph. Laughing cause I lost him in my mirrors, i thought I was in the clear. I look over and he is right beside me, with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. He gives me the "not bad" nod , and proceeds to blow past me. Damn that was iritating.....

Dude, stick with it.Half the fun of an old bike is late nite tinker sessions. And once you get it all fixed you will have one hell of a head turner and the pride of doing it yourself!
