Where Do they go?

jcmjr1
I just bought a 1979 CB750L, the guy told me it had been sitting for a while, so I cleaned the gas tank, the carbs, fuel lines and installed new spark plugs and air filter. I don't know if I cleaned the carbs good enough, the overflow on the #4 carb drains, would that be a dirty needle or the float is broke/stuck, and is there suposed to be a tube coming from the overflow nipple and where does it go to? Any help would be awesome, I NEED to ride sooon.

if fuel is running out the over flow then the float level is set to high or the seat or needle is scoured or dirty .put a clear plastic line on the drain fitting and run it up the side of the carb and turn your fuel on and you will see how high your fuel level is .do this with another carb that does not leak and compare the level s.then clean and adjust your float  and repeat to see if there the same .if that does not work ,you may need a new needle and seat .or the float has a hole in it and fuel leaked into it .shake it and see if fuel is in the float itself

that is clean and adjust float valve, not float

put a pen mark on the tube to compare fuel level settings

thanks I will try that, is there already supposed to be a hose on that fitting going to the top of the carbs?

you have to remove the hose on the drain  .and install a clear plastic  one and tie it up to the side of the carb then open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb and watch the fuel run into the clear plastic hose and it will level off to the height that the float is set at .then mark that level with jiffy marker and check another carb that doesn,t leak and compare levels .then adjust the level of the leaky carb till it is the same as the one that doesn,t leak from over flow . if it still leaks then you will have to clean the valve and seat or replace them as they may be scored or pitted
