advice on first CB

gsotis
Hi you guys.  so iam in the market for a honda CB but iam having a tough time finding a good one at a decent price.  but i did find one that does need some work for a very cheap price.  i plan on making it into a cafe style bike, so what do you guys think of this bike.  is it a lost cause or is it worth trying to fix? also he emailed me saying the engine does turn over, but they never started it.

I'd try to find one that least turns over. They said that they didn't try but I'd guess they did and it won't turn.
It'll cost more to rebuild a motor than a running bike would cost.

Agreed. When a bike is parted out like this one has been, that means somebody somewhere has probably tried to fix it and given up, for good reason. You could potentially spend more just getting it going than it would cost to buy a bike that's already running. I see them go all the time for between $750 - $1500.

I don't see much in spokane (if that's where you're at) but if you've got a pickup truck, or know somebody with one, try as far out as you're comfortable driving.

Even though it's on the other side of the state, there appear to be a ton in Seattle.

Get this bike, and keep it for parts, it is not good for anything more unless you want to pay through the nose. You WILL spend at least 500 unless you get lucky somehow. Keep in mind the 77/78 are not as easy to find as the 71-76 bikes. Parts can be a little more difficult but it has gotten better.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
