alternator cover gasket

callbr549
I had my alternator cover off last winter to polish. I haven't ridden much this year because of other issues with the bike, but now i notice a pretty significant leak that seems to be coming from that cover. Does that gasket need to be replaced each time I take it off?  Can I use some kind of gasket sealer on it for now until I can get a replacement? Bike is a 1972 CB750.

I reuse them all the time. I just put a thin layer of gasket sealer on them.

Anything I should look for in a gasket sealer? The only time I looked (a long time ago) it seemed like the auto parts store had many different varieties.

Just do not use a permanent hardening, or one that will glue it to the surface. RTV silicone is OK, but use it vary sparingly. The thinner the coat the better.

This is the stuff I use on all my gaskets.  No matter how long it is in place the gasket always come off easy.  Realy good for head gaskets.
