bottom of clutch case wet with oil

This post was updated on .
hey CB masters... my '79 CB750L has it's 1st leak ... a tiny bit of oil on seam at bottom of clutch case cover. I plan on tightening allen bolts, but want to make sure that overtightening will not wreck gasket. I don't (not yet) have a side kick stand so she sits level always. Should I add a silicon to gasket? let me know if i should panic :)

the pic is from manual...oil is on bottom seam

NEVER USE SILICONE on an engine gasket!!!!!!! Just tighten the bolts, and see if it fix's it. If not, then replace the gasket.

Hello Tools, i'm interested in your comment on silicone. I've been rebuilding car and bike engines for 50 years, and have used silicone on gaskets and without gaskets, ever since it became readily available more than 40 years ago, without a single problem. I'm intersted in why don't you recommend using it?

gooch
Rod,

The problem is with the very small oil passages on these old SOHC engines. You take a chance with the silicone plugging up any one of these small oil holes and starving the top end of oil. you can imagine the result.
