brake caliper leaking

JonnyLow
Just rebuilt the front brake caliper. This consisted of me taking it apart and soaking it in carb cleaner, then putting a new seal in. Now, it leaks terribly. I've separated the two halves of the caliper, removed the brake pad and pumped the brake lever and I can see a bunch of air bubbles and fluid coming out from around the piston. Obviously it isn't sealed very well. It's a brand new seal. Anyone have any idea whats going on? Thanks.

Would coating the piston in grease help?

You may need the piston also
My F2 (dual Disc)was missing one of the calipers picked up a used one pretty rusty looking ,So automatically ordered a complete kit with piston.Come to find out I needed it for the good looking one I already had and the rusty one was just fine ,So Piston maybe

I did spray a Lil silicone on it when I put it on

Just a thought. Is it possible to put the seal in backwards? If not I would suspect either a faulty seal or a pitted/scratched piston.

No, the seal is basically an o-ring, no way for it to be backwards...

Mine is a 1976 cb750k. Upon further inspection, I think there might be a little chunk missing from the rubber seal. I am going to order another one and see if that fixes the problem... I can't think of any other reason brake fluid would just stream out of the caliper like it is.

Update: When I got the new seal, I compared it to the old one and sure enough there was some rubber missing. Replaced the seal and now the brake is working great.
