carb insulators(boots)

stevew
Is it possible to make a insulator? I have a bad #4 boot and am going to order some in the next day or so, and was just wondering if it is possible. I would like to continue working on the bike while I'm waiting for parts. Wife will be out of town so this will be the best time to work on it.

Just find a radiator hose the same diameter, and cut out a section with the right bend in it.

I know it's mostly air and a little gas going through there, but will a hose made for exposure to water and glycol work OK in this application?  If someone's done it, and had no problems, I willingly stand corrected.

I have not seen anyone do this. Heard about people thinking of trying it. Only issue I can think of is with sealing and air flow. The normal insulators have a lip in them for mounting and the heater hose would not. So sealing might be an issue but maybe not.

Well, I did the radiator hose repair, was suprised that it would work. I cut 4 insulators out of the hose and installed. Don't seem to have any leaks anywhere and runs better than it did although I still have a issue when running down the highway at speeds. Will replace the inline filter tommorrow and see if that will help.

Bike still struggles at full throttle, when you lay into it will not go and starts to fall on its face. When I let out of it 3/4 throttle it will smooth out and run okay. This makes it hard to maintain speed running down the highway.
