cb750 pulser

i pulled the cover off my pulser on my cb750 because my bike wasn't firing right , only to find out there was a lot of oil , the whole unit was soaked in oil ?

You're talking about the left side, correct? There should be oil in there. The right side has the stator and should NOT have oil.

This bike does not have a "pulser" which in reality is just a modern term for a Magneto.
A Honda VF1000R has a "pulser" to get it started.

The CB750 has an alternator.

Can you tell us what year, and model of CB you have?  Also, which side cover?  "Pulser" is not a term I recognize, though I know Luke stated it is a reference to the magneto/alternator.  Cheers!

If it is the bike shown in your profile,  a DOHC, it is what Honda call a "pulse generator", used to time the pulse to the electronic ignition, each pickup is for one coil which fires two cylinders, either 1 and 4, or 2 and 3. It does run covered in oil. And if you put it on the side stand with the cover off, it all runs out! (Speaking from experience)

+1.  I did the same thing on my old bike.  Lost about a quart of oil before I got the cover back on. Lesson learned: center stand the bike before working on engine in general, and left side cover in particular.

its a 1981 cb 750 custom on the left side you can see  ( pickup coils ) and the counter weight and right behind that is the fly wheel for the starter , thats were all the oil was sitting
