choke question - pic?

seestheday
Hi,
This is a bit of a weird question, but can anyone tell me how the choke pull is normally mounted to the handlebars?  Mine is tied on with a ziptie and seems to need to be pulled a lot to work so I thought that since I have the carbs off I thought it would be a good time to replace the cable and properly mount it.

I'm guessing that there is some sort of bracket I either need to fabricate of buy to properly mount it.
If anyone has a pic that would be great, I couldn't find one where I could get a clear view of it when I searched.

Small bracket, the plastic choke pull should have a threaded body with plastic nut. At work so can't get you a pic. Mine mounts on left side of top triple tree from the factory.

Below are pics of mine.  It looks like I have the bracket, but it's just a u shape and nothing is holding it in (other than the zip tie).

What part of yours broke?  Is it a part of the cable?  I'm curious because if a new cable will fix it I'll happily buy one (carbs are already out and it will be a very easy fix).

Mine was broke too, but different year and more room Ganges are separate (sorry cam. dead)
But I took a peace of plumbing strap(metal band with lots of holes it) made one big enough for cable to slip through and tighten and other(hole) just put on to one of the screws / bolts .can't even tell.
of course ya gotta file it and get it in shape

You want the choke cable securely mounted so that you can operate it with your left hand and keep the right hand on the throttle, if you are right handed.

Donald, I agree.

The way that it is set up right now I have to manually hold it out all the way for the choke to fully close.  I have to pull it out so far the bar actually comes out along with about a 1/2 inch of cable (this seems wrong, and another reason why I'm interested in replacing the cable, although after looking at it I might be able to fix this with some adjusting).

It's also only secured with a zip-tie, which I don't like.

I think I'm going to look into the new cable and will fabricate something more secure if I have to (might use Piute's idea  ).

Cheers,
Simon

Must be a bitch to learn how to ride if you're left handed!

Sorry, couldn't resist, immediately had a vision of somebody trying to ride with their arms crossed one over the other ;-)

Left handers learn to adapt to most things.
For instance I have never seen a left hander convert the throttle to the left handlebar .
I just looked that up and ebay shows left handed throttles for snowmobiles (lever type), but they did not show a twist grip for a motorcycle.

Left hander please chime in here...

I am a south paw,but I could not imagine a left handed throttle. Yes,you need to adapt to things. If you move the throttle to the left wouldn't you also have to move the clutch to the right. As a lefty,i would rather use my "good" on something like the clutch, than on the throttle. The clutch needs more finessing.I would love to some poor soul riding with the clutch and throttle on the same side. When my Dad was a kid he and his buddies bought a small motorcycle together.I dont remember what it was,but Harley Davidson built it.The throttle, clutch and gear shift were all operated on the the same control by the right hand.PUll in the clutch lever, rotate the whole assembly backwards to upshift, put it back into "Nuetral" position, release clutch then you can apply throttle.I had to be a son of a gun to take off with.Lets be glad that set.up faded away

It looks like your bracket is correct, theres a bottom nut which secures the cable to the bracket & a top nut ( only tighten by hand ) that tightens a collet that puts drag on the choke knob shaft to hold it in the choked position, see pic's
