so i went to buy a new batterie today then started BS'n with the dude and he seemed like a real downer about fixin up a cb750 and started going on and on please tell me i didnt make a mistake, let me know thanks

It is never a mistake to fix up a classic. This just might not be his type of bike. All my friends ride Harleys and they gave me crap about mine til they saw what I started to do with it. It's yours, if you like it then don't let others get you down.

It IS work. It can be very frustrating. It costs money. BUT you will have a satisfaction that no one else will have that you know. You will have a classic bike that you can do what you want. That you know intimately.
Something that is NOT a cookie cutter cruiser or a crotch rocket.
You will also have the satisfaction from the work you have done.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

My wife and kids bought me a 1979 CB750L with (at the time) 32K miles on it. They knew it would need some tinkering to get running, and it did. That's part of the enjoyment for a guy like me. I'm an electronics engineer/system admin/network engineer/cable TV/field engineer for the last 30+ years. Sometimes it's good to step away from all the high tech stuff, and focus on something that needs wrenches and screwdrivers and stuff. Plus, it's a good way to kill a few beers when messing with hoses or valve adjustments or carb work.  (I'm not recommending drinking and driving, but drinking and tuning may be OK.)
I enjoy it. Maybe you will, maybe you won't, but the challenge for me is to keep this bike going for as long as I can. You have to admit, these bikes are pretty rare these days, and they contrast well with the crotch rockets and Harleys out there.
Don't give up hope...once you get it running and running well, the sense of accomplishment makes it worth it.

Dont listen to some stupid mechanic about bikes, most of them are only in it for the $$$$$ not becuase they love bikes.
Man, have youb ever ridden the type of bike you now own ? You can "feel" the power right thru your boidy, and can hear all the parts working, let him who has ears, hear !
Old classic bikes, and especialy old Honda's, are very common here in New Zealand, becuase we like bikes we can work on ourselves. CB parts are plantiful, Honda made millions of them, and you can get naearly any engine part either straigh from Honda, or from an aftermarket bunch. They never die, some idiot has to kill them, they go practicaly for ever, and have few mechanical problems, beuing of a sturdy and practical design.
Also, they look great, they look like bikes are supposed to look, that Triumph, Norton, kinda Honda CB750, or GS1000, or maybe a Yamaha 650 special look.
You got yourself a great bike brother, enjoy it, as a peice of history, and as a wonderfuly fun way to get around.
I do nearly 450ks a week to and from work, 5 days, and even though she somrimes runs a little hungry, and sucks in water thru the air cleaner in heavy rain, she just keeps on rock'n. rain, hail, cold, hot, day or night.
CB750, youre the best !!!

no no you guys are totally right, i love my bike and im not ganna let this guy discourage me, ive been back there to buy plugs,oil filter etc... for a basic tune up and he seems a lot better. he actually found and gave me a manual for the bike, i thought that was pretty nice! so i guess im over it.. thanks again guys. butch

Thats the way Butch , now you read that manual cover to cover, while sitting with the bike in front of you,. Look for the parts its pointing out, you'll be amazed at what you have learned by the time you've had two beers !

I remember when Harly!@#$%^&*( dealers would tell you "we do not want to have anything to do with your bike" when going in for repairs or parts for an older bike. Oh hold it, they still do that.

pictures are on coming, want to clean the bike up a little its in a little rough shape.... its not so stock looking tho it has a chopper thing going on but plan of changing are on the making...i wanna go cafe racer way but then im thinking since itskinda started maybe keep going with it. not sure, i just want to get it up and running mechanically first ya know.
