dohc engine stand

seestheday
This post was updated on .
Anyone know where I can pick one up?  The don't look too expensive and it'll probably a lot safer/easier than just resting the engine on a 2x4 box I can make myself.

Are they worth it?  Will an SOHC engine stand work?

Something like this is what I'm thinking about: http://deadcreekcycles.com/CB750-Engine-Stand_p_831.html
that will let me securely work on on my bench.

bumping this back up.  I may just end up making that wooden box, but I was hoping that I could have bought a proper stand.

Don't look like anyone really knows about the stand.

If you are just looking for some thing to kepp the motor off the ground. I say try your wood idea first less money.

That stand don't look all that hard to make.

I made a wood crate out of wood with casters on it to store my motoer in. when I get done with my build I think I will try to rebuild my spare motor as a back up and store it in that crate. I also have car wheel dollies. Right now I have one of my motors on it works great to move it around.

Good luck if you try to build one.

Yes it will work on a DOHC since the mounts are the same on both engines. Somewhere on here I have a thread that shows how to make a stand out of 1 1/8 inch angle iron, for less then $8.00.

I had seen someone built a mount that attached to a normal vehicle stand. Wish I could remember where I seen that.

Thanks tools. I've seen that thread but from what I recall I'd need to weld to do it. Since I don't have that equipment then the cost to me would be much higher than $8. :-).

I didn't think that the mounts were in the same spots. That is good to know. I'll likely get one of the ones listed for the dohc engine. Although I did build a wood box tonight and think it would be reasonably sturdy for a one time use.

Hey Easy,

Sorry I must have missed this post.  Thanks for the offer dude

My wood stand is working pretty good for me though.  Feel free to sell them , seems like there is a little bit of demand.

Re: dohc engine stand

The wooden box out of 2x4's is what was shown in my motorcycle mechanic's textbook.  They are decidedly low-tech, but  they work well, if only in a very basic mode.

On a vaguely related note, anyone own one of those bike lifts which raise them up 2-3 feet?  I have considered the bike jacks, but they would require an adapter for my Voyager (to avoid crushing the exhaust pipes), and they only raise it up 12-18 inches.  It would be sooo much easier if the bike were 3 feet up, or so, off of the ground.  A luxury, I know, but it would make my life much easier.  Cheers!

The SOHC, and DOHC engine mount holes are all in the same places, so I do not know why this particular stand will not work on the DOHC. The engine stands I make fit all the SOHC, and DOHC engines. There is a thread here somewhere that tells how to build one.
