I am documenting my work on FB, as I can easily post pictures from my phone. I'll probably start a thread in the members builds section. but here's a link.............

Tools, After looking at that fender I realized it's pretty bad. The one BIG dent (2in.) actually perforated the metal and the area around it looks like crinkled aluminum foil. The fork tubes are bent, but the lowers are ok and the guts are there, so I guess I can use the later tubes, which is good, since they are way cheaper. What would you want for your tubes from Franks??
I also noticed the axle might be a bit messed up on the wheel, but wont know for sure until I tear it apart. The wheel seems straight though, and all the chrome is good.
Thanks again for all the help so far. I'll be back for more.

Thanks. I guess I will keep looking. The forks I have gotten from Franks are all on bikes. I used to straighten bent forks on my dirt bikes. Some bike shops will straighten forks. It's not hard to do. You just need a press with V blocks, and a dial caliper. With some patience, you can make them read out to zero, and be good as new.

If you find something in or near Mpls. let me know, I might be able to pick it up and ship to you. There are two CL ads now for cb750 parts. One is close to me.

Hi there....

Old thread but I need your help..

As I have an early K2, and was looking to lower it, I've changed out the fork tubes to later K ones. As stated in this topic it would swap right over....

Now I have the problem the tubes appear to be "loose" in the lowers.

when I hit the brake (just when in the garage, don't dare to ride it like this) I can move it back and forth.

I've swapped all internals out with the later K ones.

Any idea what I might have done wrong?

What year "K" did you get the fork tubes from? There is a write up on here about how to shorten forks the right way.

no idea really.
but internals looked the same as the thread I followed here on how to lower the front.

Cut the spring, add spacer...

Re: early K2 forks

ok,

I found out what part I missed...
both legs (pre 72 and after) are 35mm so they are the same.

But the ID of the pre 72 leg holders have is bigger, because they use some kind of spacer/collar to hold the legs in place. instead of the lower allen bolt in the later type.

So I'll just at the spacer to the post 72 legs and they should be a snug fit then...

it's number 13 in this outlay.
