fork swap

helinut
I am new to the 80s cb 750 world, my wife bought me a 1980 cb750c that needs work. It runs but has a bent fork tube. I really like the look of big fork tubes and dual disc setup. What triple trees will swap. And could I build it into a nighthawk or is that a different frame completely?

The easiest swap for bigger tubes, and duel disc brakes is ti swap for an early Gold Wing front end. It's a bolt on deal.

Thanks! Aside from speedo brakes and controls what is involved with an inverted fork swap? Is there a bike that the triple trees will bolt on my frame.

You need to talk to Shiny about abominations like that.

The only reason i am asking is because i have a bent front tube and the ones i have seen are almost as expensive as a newer set. I would really like to build it as a factory nighthawk

If you are comfortable doing a stem swap , ant forks can go on your bike.

USD's off sport bike are typically much shorter than our forks. I out a set of USD's ( '02 GSXR 750) on a '78 and they were just too short. I lost about 2.5'' of ride height. Also, the trees on those types of front ends typically have very little offset, or none at all, which cause header-front tire clearance when trying to run the stock 19'' rims up front.

But it is 100% doable.

CBR forks from 1998 and prior (mayke some newer than that, I'm not sure) are pretty good forks for these bikes. They are conventional forks though, not USD.

I just put a CBR 1000 front end on a '78. Other than swapping the stems, it;s a bolt on job. It uses a 20mm front axle though, so you have to get different wheel bearings. I have that part number here if you need it.

After all that you are on your own for adapting rotors and calipers though. There may be an easy option for that, but I haven't progressed far enough in that build to know yet.

If you look through the '78K resto-mod hackjob build on here you may see some answers to some of your questions.

If you decide you wanna go for it and need some machine work done holler at me. I love doing this stuff. It's a pile of fun.
