front brake reservoir

i had a 72 cb that had the brake reservoir mounted real close to the caliper...i always thought this was a stock setup...but i was talking to a bud about it and he said hes never seen that before..were the early bikes set up like this from the factory or did my bike have some aftermarket/custom setup?
