gas leaking from the overflow

Karl H
I have a 1979 cb750K that I rebuilt the carbs on and now when I start it the gas flows out of the overflow. I checked the o rings on the drain screw and there fine. Any ideas?

Also in doing some reading on the forum I read that you can't use pod filters on these bikes. Is that true? If so anyone want to buy a set?

Wow, that weird I just had this problem yesterday. This is what shiny told me to do and it work perfectly.

"Could be a bad float is sinking or just debris in the needle. More than likely its a piece of trash in the needle. Maybe some Seafoam,or just miles, will flush it out. Or you may need to pull that one bowl off and clean that needle and seat." shiny

Great advise always the 1st to mind is the float level I'm a little low myself but been working great.

Now those pods you have picsand any info on brand and if used same $h!^ you would wont to know,I'm going to just test on mine and see what my mechanic(kuzz) says about them with key tops ,He can tune anything and believe that his knowledge will prove that can be done with my bike.HE IS THAT GOOD

Ok so i got the bowls off and sure enough there was crap in the needle valves. I drained the tank and found more crap so I'm thinking a solution would be to put in a in line fuel filter. is there a special one i should get or does anyone have suggestions for one?

Inline filters are worth their weight in gold,IMO. A clear bodied one lets you check the condition of it easily,so long as you dont mind people seeing your dirtI used one of the sintered types(looks like a blob of yellow metal inside) and had issues with it just like you just experienced. I like the filters with a paper element. They will catch very small particles. Some people have a hard time finding a small paper type in their area. Briggs and Stratton sell them and I find them at my local Stihl dealer. It is the same model used from the factory on their skid steer mower and it fits the same size line that will fit your petcock, so I would suggest to shop there. Runs about $4 for one of them. Happy hunting!

How do you get those off?  My gas has been overflowing but only if I leave my petcock on for a couple hours while the bike is parked.  I read about floats, but the way you phrase it you make it sound like I don't need to take apart the entire carbs.

Well not the entire carbs, Just the bottom. I pulled the carbs off the bike and took the bowls off on a bench its three bolts on the bottom. I'm still a newbie to bikes so someone else may have a better answer as to what is causing your leak. I've always been good at taking things apart though, you can ask my parents abut 3 year old me

So I got a fuel filter but I can't seem to find a good way to run the fuel hose without it looking like a crazy straw . Anyone have ideas?

Thorby,on your 76 model carbs,to take off the float bowls all you have to do is flip the retainer clip towards the front of the bike. Bowls will fall right off then.

Excellent, Shiny, thank you.  So it's a whole lot simpler than I imagined, I am going to go ahead and inspect/clean the floats myself.

Got the fuel lines run and the bike starts but it dies at idle and the throttle response is super sluggish. I've read a little on how to tune the carbs but I don't really know where to start...Help?
