There's a few different ways to de-rust a tank. Whatever method you use, make sure you have ALL the gas out of the tank. One little spark, and it could go boom.
That being said, go to the home page of this forum, type "rust" in the search window, and see what you can find. I'm sure there's quite a discussion on how it's done. Some use nuts and bolts and a bicycle chain inside the tank, and roll it around and back and forth. There are muriatic acid solutions which chemically clean out the inside of the tank. There's even an electrolysis method that shows promise. There's a treatment called Kreem which will line the inside of your cleaned out tank with a coating to prevent rust from reforming.
Since you just got the bike running, and are probably champing at the bit to ride it, I'd recommend a good inline gas filter from the petcock to the fuel manifold. NAPA should have some in stock. I use a bronze element filter, and it seems to work for me. That won't de-rust the tank, but it will keep crud from getting to the carbs.
