honda cb 750 k2 ....1972

met
hi,

i have a cb 750 k2 1972 model.

i wanted to replace tyres, front and rear suspension on the bike.

has anyone got any tips on whats the best on tyres at the moment?

and who in sydney,  might be good in doing the front forks to the bike.

also if there are any recommendations on replacing the rear shocks with something decent.

cheers

Welcome to the forum. You can rebuild the front forks yourself. They are very easy. The only things to do on them is to replace the seals, and oil/ATF. As, for shocks. I just replaced mine with these progressively wound shocks. They ride really nice. http://www.vintagecb750.com/products/3/suspension You can also get progressively wound front springs. On tires, Buy the best, you can afford.

yeah thanks......i would do the front forks, however there is pitting on the chrome,
which means that they will need to be smoothed out first and i will need someone in sydney to do this first before i put new seals on them.....thanks anyway.

If your tubes are pitted, you would be better off, and cheaper to replace them.

Second hand? I would try ebay. The later tubes (73-78), and dampeners will fit in your lowers also. You could also get them new from Franks, and cycle-x. They are about as much used as new.

yeah i think this is what has happened to this bike, which is a new addition for me.

someone has put on, non original forks and another plastic fender......obviously cause the original chrome fender for this bike, will not fit with these forks.

maybe its what you are saying and that they have put on the 73-78 tubes......

i guess i can live with it as it doesn't seem to affect the handling of the bike in any way.

still............ i do want to eventually restore the bike as close as possible to original.

might try franks or cycle-x............ are they both in the US or aussie?

.......and i believe these are the original ones, which i either keep and replace the tubes with...or toss and live with the ones that are already on the bike.

as you can see they are badly pitted so they either get re machined or replaced

I can not really tell about the second set of forks. The angle of the camera does not show the caliper mounting very well, but those tubes are shot! Only good, for paper weights. The set on your bike now is off a 73-78 K, 75-76 F, or 76-78 A More then likely a K since they have a K caliper.

will i leave them as is  or will i change them back to originals?

and thats the question....

it seems to be quite a common conversion out there in honda world.

do you know if its a successful one ?

Either one works perfect. The only draw back is originality with using the newer style, and expense with the older style. The older ones are the same as the 69 sand cast bikes, and that drives the price up.
