ignition advance mechanism question.

Burro
Hey gang I has a problem. I'm installing a pamco electronic ignition on my buddies 1974 cb500 4 and when I went to remove the ring around the plate that has the weights on it I couldn't find away to remove the bloody thing! I've removed the springs and c clips from the weights to see if they should come off with the sleeve and no luck. Any ideas I recently did this same thing to my cb750 and no prob the sleeve just fell off with a little weight manipulation. The blasted part giving me trouble is the one the pencil is touching. The blasted part that won't come off is the one the pencil is touching.

Try applying a little heat to it.

Thanks Tools, I threw it in the oven for about an hour or so until my house smelled like roasted bike part and less like cheap pizza. Came off with no problem.

Never thought about an oven...  Heard of using a torch, but not an oven.  Another good reason to buy a cheap counter-top oven thingie.  LOL.  Cheers!

This reminds me of another old trick on how to heat treat brake rotors.  Clean the oil off of them, heat them to about 300 degrees F, leave the rotors in there for about 30 minutes, then turn the oven off and let them cool gradually.  Repeat once or twice if necessary.

This helps keep the warping of the rotors to a minimum when installing new parts.
