inside of a pulse generator?

dyelawn
I'm leaking oil on my 82' CB750C, pretty sure through the pulse generator.  There is oil residue accumulating along the seams of the very outside (where the painted black metal meets the unpainted cover) and where the painted black piece meets the engine.  I understand there is a rubber gasket for the unpainted cover and a bigger paper gasket for the other seam.  I ordered both through my local Honda shop and they've come in.

My question is for anyone who's taken apart the pulse generator: what does it look like in there?  Am I right to assume that under normal circumstances this is a dry chamber?  I took the cover off once and there was some oil- at the time I thought that "that's weird, I thought this would be a dry chamber, now I get it's because of the leak...  When unscrewing the larger metal piece from the rest of the engine to replace that paper gasket- do I need to drain the oil from the engine first? (I assume so?), or is there another barrier to the engine or something...

I've never tried to replace an oil leak before, and I haven't opened this chamber.  If anyone's got tips or insights, I'd appreciate hearing them.  Thanks.

EDIT:  The 82 CB750c Does have a pulse generator.

Why not go to the DOHC forum where you can get more expertise?

The pulse generator (located on the left-hand side of the bike) is wet. There needs to be oil in there to keep the gears lubricated, do not take the cover off unless you have the bike on the center stand or standing straight up (not on the kickstand).

There are plenty of people on here with DOHC bikes that will help you, and this forum is full of people that want to help you, but like anywhere we do have our resident grouch

Thanks Lucky1.  The alternator is on the right side, yes.  That's not where the oil leak is, though.  It's in the pulser generator, which is on the left side.

The rubber gasket sits along the edges of the open chamber shown in the picture (right where you'd put the cover back on).  Opening up this cover (as is shown in the picture) is where I found some oil previous.  I don't think there should be oil here, hence the leak, but I'm looking for confirmation for anyone who's opened this up before.

The paper gasket sits behind where is shown in this picture.  I'm assuming that when I unscrew the interface shown in the picture to access the gasket, I would be accessing the engine, oil would pour out, and thus I'll need to drain the oil from the engine first.  But I'm also looking for confirmation on this...

Thanks any and all who might know!

With some further reading I'm able to be more specific about these names of parts...

There is oil accumulating between 1) the left crankcase cover and the pulser cover, and 2) between the crankcase and the left crankcase cover.  I understand both the pulser and the crankcase should have oil in them.  No obvious cracks or holes to be seen, but there is definitely oil leaking from both of these places.

Going to replace the gaskets tomorrow.  If that doesn't work, anyone have any suggestions for a spray-on/apply-able sealant of some sorts or another idea?
