intake

fathacarl
does anyone know if the intake on a 750 4 can be replaced?  It's the part on the head that the carb boofits on.  Somebody got carried away with a hammer.  I don't see it offered on any of the parts sites.
                                            thanks

The SOHC looks like they are made, for a wrench to go on them, but I have never heard of any one ever replacing one.

I attempted a little research on this. Not very successful at finding any aftermarket source for them. But I believe they are calling them intake stubs. Some places are calling them spigots, whereas other people are calling the rubber boots themselves spigots, which doesn't make sense to me.I believe Honda calls the rubber boots carburetor vibration isolators.Like i said, not real successful. This has me curious so im still looking.Somebody has to have something.

I am going on a limb and saying few have issues with this particular part. I doubt they are even available.

Someone once told me that there are 7 parts for Honda K series motors that are not available.  Wonder if this is one of them.

I've got a local guy (The Honda Doctor) that I'll check with.

My welder thinks he can weld the pieces back together.  Probably try that also.  Would hate to scrap a head.

Thanks for all the input.  Interesting subject.

Those are the parts that press into the carbs to attach the rubber boots. There's another pic on the site somewhere with it assembled. They're not, unfortunately, the part that fits in the head.

I'm wondering if you couldn't just use a piece of the right size exhaust pipe to make these. Press them into the head. Use a lip roller to put a bead on there for sealing. Of course, that would cause some turbulence, not a smooth entry like a machined part. Maybe a small ring could be welded on outside the pipe to serve as a lip to aid sealing. Then the inside would still be smooth.

Rerun is probably correct. They may not even make them.If they are not available then what do you do if you want to go to bigger carburetors? Tapered boots?

Re: intake

here's a better picture of the broken piece.  You are probably right that if you can find some tubing the same size, it could be pressed in the hole.

Re: intake

I've also had good luck using a dremel and a small cutting tip or wheel to groove pipes bit by bit until I JUST break through, then there's a 1/8" gap in the pipe which lets it pull out quite easily. Just go very slow and carefully so you don't cut into the head.

finally got around to getting the broken intake out of the head.  These parts are definitely threaded.  The threads are so fine that I doubt if you could screw them out.  Don't know what you would replace them with anyway.

I wonder if heat, and a big socket would get one out.

Re: intake

I'm gonna try that.  The head is pretty well shot anyway.  I had to rob the exhaust spigots to put on the 71 motor I picked up.  I could find another head cheaper than replacing all the parts.
