All the re-jetting is a compromise, If you want to run without the air-box, get some carburetors that have mechanical slides. Of course there are jetting kits available that claim to do a good job. Some people I know have gone that route only to put the air-box back in because they weren't happy.

When you get a chance, start the engine, look into the intake and you can see for yourself what's happening to the slides.

i fear that you are probably right. I am unsure whether or not i will be able to do it today, but i will try putting on my stock box again, and if the problem goes away i will keep it. I am not so attracted to the idea of keeping the individual filters that i would spend hundreds just to fail, but i have obviously already purchased the filters so that sucks.

Well... If the stock box fixes it, anyone interested in a set of four K&N chrome capped filters? lol.

On another note, anyone have any tips that make re-installing the air box easier? (its a hell of a time trying to get the carbs. back on in that cramped space)

karl,
On that note; i would only want to do it if i did it right, so i might keep the filters and save for a set of carbs with mechanical slides, in the mean time if the box fixes it i'll use it.

Do you happen to know of a set of carbs with mech. slides that fit my bike?

Yes, right on, fixmybike.Just went through the same thing, exact same problem.Took it to the speed shop and they put it on the dyno and re-jetted and shimmed the needles.Just to give you a clue on how the pod filters changed my gas- air flow.My stock jetts 68,s and 102,s .New jetts 110,s and 107,s plus shimmed the needles 30,000th.Runs great now but i could have not done it with out paying the $340.In the long run i believe i saved money.

Stock box back on, and power is returned. I have to re-adjust my carbs. again, but having my torque is worth it, thanks for all the help guys. I wish i would have known this to begin with and especially before i spent the 140.00 on K&N filters, but oh well; less than an hour off my bike and i have already found a buyer for 2 of them.

I was prepared to spend 340.00, but putting the box on again saved me a lot of money, and time i suppose. plus i think the only dyno in this town is at one of the local colleges. lol.

Thanks again guys.

Glad to hear that all is well with the air-box in place.
