Choosing between clubmans and clipons. They're similar in riding position, but that's about it.

Price wise, clubmans are about $20-25. Clipons are usually about $65 and up. Some of the nicer ones (adjustable) can be in the $150-200 range.  I see alot of expensive clubmans online, $40+, but I see them in local shops for cheap all the time.

Looks wise, clubmans always look old school classy, whereas alot of clipons look kinda modern-ish(to me, at least). Depends on the look you want, I guess.

VintageCB750.com sells these chromed clipons for $65. Ive seen them in person and the finish is not bad. http://www.vintagecb750.com/products/2/chassis-brakes/63/handlebars

I know it's not exactly a suggestion on the paint job but did you paint your wheels and forks or powder them?  Either way what was process?  They look great and are exactly what I want my wheels and forks to look like.  I'm afraid to take my wheels apart as I'm sure if I do I'm probably going to have to buy new spokes and those dang things are expensive.

Regardless I like the look of your bike and I also really dig the bare tank.  I'm thinking of doing just that.

I vote for Clip on bars.

Add character.  Club man bars are also cool, but if you are going that route, go all the way. I started with Club Man BArs, although nice, soon after I got them, I started wondering about Clip On Bars, and the unavoidable ended happening, moved on to Clip On Bars.  Save time, go for it.

Like it was mentioned, there is price variation, in my case, I first bought some cheaper ones, and never used them. Fact was, those were simple and offered no space between bar and tank. Way too close, no play.  Also grip angle was fixed, no room to adjust grip to my wrists and position.

Ended up purchasing "Telefix" ( German made ) Clip On Bars. THe best ones I could had ever gotten. Fully adjustable. 360 degrees. Got pivots in 3 places so your tank, your hands and wrists are all happy.

Got these a few years back. They are still in the market. But nowadays there are plenty  more products available. Search around.

But if you want to get started, and have time to search and see, as well as on a budget, go for Club Man Bars. Great start

Color wise, ( for the tank I assume, already painted your frame and wheels black, which is my favorite wheel and frame color ! ) ... depends on what colors you like.

Do you like metallic paints ?  Perhaps solid colors ? ( no metallic, but gloss solid.)

Do you like combination schemes ? ( half one color, half another )  or only one color ?

Do you like to have brand emblems on tank ? or stealth non emblem look ?

Saw this bike at a Car and Bike (Japanese) show in Long Beach last September.

I saw Billman's bike there too ( look at BIllman's project thread.)

Looks like an interesting color scheme for a SOHC Honda.

Hey lewis!
Thanks for the comment!

Frankly, this wheel job is a test...the chrome finish was pretty rusty and scratched.
I was figuring to replace them by new ones at start. But when i checked them to see if they were "true" i have been pretty surprised that they were!!!!! The spokes were all tight and straight...

So instead of buying new ones i decided to try painting them. i thought about powder coating but, since i wanted to save money on it, i decided to only  paint them.

I don't have a big knowledge of paints types and techniques, so i went to a pro painter for suggestion and advice.
For sure his answer was to replace them or to powdercoat them. But when i told him i wanted to try paint he suggested me what he thought was the best solution on chrome.

So....

1-i sandblasted them with medium-rough material very carefully to make sure every area was reached. Chrome seems to be very hard to grind.
2-Then i used steel wool (coarse one) to fnish the job.
tough and long job....but i survived!!
3-Then, i used pre-paint final wash....wich is a degreasant....again, very carefully to make sure every area was covered.
4-top quality primer
5- black paint wich was a "complete" paint...not only a base coat. He suggested a type of paint that is covering very well to avoid having a too thick coat, which will be more prone to chip or stonechip.
6- then i finished with a clear coat wich was polished after a couple of days with a compound.

I didn't mention but primer, paint and clear coat were all in SPRAY CANS. Pro quality with quality nozzles.
Different nozzles for different type of (jet?)or (spray?) I mean wide or less wide....
The painter also mentionned that he chose type of products that are all COMPATIBLE together...he said some types of paint will not be compatible and the durability and quality of finish will be diminuted. It can produce "fish eyes" or "orange skin" or worse "shrink"....kind of

You can't see it on the pictures but the results are surprising!!!
I even give a hard time to the paint when i put the tires on....surpisingly resistant!!!!

I'm very proud of the job!!! And usually i'm not easy to satisfy
Same with women....lol
I'm also pretty handy with spray can paints....(my only quality)

Unfortunately i can't give you the names and numers of the products i used beacuse i'm not home...i'm away for a couple of weeks for work...
May be i can tell you when i'm back home!!!!

HOPE MY WRITING WAS NOT TOO BAD....I'M FRENCH!!! BE INDULGENT

Nice beast!!!

Kawasaki-like green isn'it??

I thought about design like that on my CB tank....but with red instead of green...

I'M not gonna go green i think....reminds me BERTHA my KLR...my reliable old ride..

I drove it to JAMES BAY many times! 975 kms ride..straight up north..350 kms were on  garnet only.

Wolves, bears and monster mosquitoes...
That was cool!!!! May be i'll post pics one day.....

Ok!! enough souvenirs!

Thanks for the idea masiste!!

Cool.

Yes, you choose the colors, that scheme looks good on a Honda.

I believe SOHC Hondas from the 70's came in metallic red, gold, green, blue.  But the green in the photo might be a different shade.

Clubmans or clip ons will kill your back. Extreme choices.

Get superbike bars and you will have good looks and comfortable riding.

Then you will not have to try to sell the clip ons or clubmans for 1/2 of what you bought them for.
On a Roadstar Adventure.

Well, what kills one persons back is perfectly comfortable to someone else.

I prefer the riding position of super bike bars, but I put oodles of miles on some clubmans, too. Superbike bars are my preference, but clubmans are a whole lot of fun.

I will probably use this bike to drive around and downtown......short distances.

So i think my back will not be a problem.

But you're right man, for longer distances, it kills a back easily!
