Hi - I just bought a 76 cb750k6 and swapped out the turn signals for the ones that carpy sells at cb750cafe.com they look great, and after having to modify some bolts, etc, I've got them to turn on when (and only when) the directional switch is on. But they don't blink.
I tried buying and installing a new "winker" but that didn't help. Neither did the new battery (which I needed and installed anyway.)
I've looked at the grounds, and they seem fine. (Since the lights light when the switch is on, that seems to indicate that the circuit is working.)
I've got some conflicting info about wattage of the bulbs - the new ones are 10w each, the previous ones were 23w each i think. I've looked for but haven't found any 20w bulbs that will fit the new fixtures...
The wattage of your bulbs is the most likely cause. Not enough draw to trip the relay. Im assuming the originals worked fine. So either find higher wattage bulbs or a different relay. The blinkers are 3 wire settups so there is a running light wire and a blinker wire as well as a ground you might check to see if everything is hooked up right. One time I bought aftermarket blinkers that were 3 wire but the bulbs had two different filaments one for blinking and one for running and I burned the bulbs out real fast because they were mixed up. I dont know if any of this will help but it was worth a shot.
My rooomates 73' CB750 did the same thing. The lights would come on but not flash. I told him to ride the bike for a while and see what happened and it generated enough juice to get them going. He hasn't had a problem with them since. Your battery is probably just a bit draine dand can't get the flasher to work.
My dad had that same of experience and I'm not sure what his mechanic did on that turn signal problem. But I'm sure your mechanic can help a lot, what I'm sure is my dad's mechanic make him buy some bulbs on autopartswarehouse.com.
I installed the same turn signals on mine. The turn signals work no running lights and every time i use them and hit the throttle i blow the 15 amp fuse. I'll e-mail carpy and see what he says.
