numbers matching

james prichard
I am considering a 72 CB750 for purchase. The numbers between engine and frame do not match. The seller who seems to know a lot about these, says they usually don't match, but rather should be in a "range" of numbers close to the frame VIN. Is this true? Most vehicles usually came with a mtching motor and chassis. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for responding. How far out can the range be? Do you think the non original motor hurts the value much? Thanks.
