Here's the riddle I have for everyone...
Bike 91 CB 750.
Runs great, the other day, for the first time, I pushed the start button to be welcomed by only a "click."
OH S--T DEAD BATTERY... But I'm wondering, I think I bought this battery about a year ago. Is that long enough for the battery to die. The battery in my beemer used to last my 2 or 3 years minimum.
I noticed that the head light gets a little brighter when I twist the throttle. So I'm assuming that the alternator is ok... Am I wrong in that assumption???
The biggest problem is i don't have a volt meter, so until I can get it to the shop I'll be parking on hills.....

I have seen bike battery's die after a year. Will it crank if you jump it? have you tried charging the battery?

Affirmative it will start if I "jump" it. But I haven't tried jumper cables only the good old fashion hill method.
In Hong Kong no one has a set of jumper cables and if they do, they probably don't know how to use them...
I'm not crazy about "hill" starting my bike. I am guessing that I am doing damage to my clutch, gear-box, chain and sprockets...
Am I being over paranoid? I need my bike everyday, so it might be a few days before I can get it to the shop for a battery...
Should I bus-it for now?

Bump starting will not hurt the bike. Just put it in high gear when doing it. You can make a set of cables for your bike with some 8 ga wire. You can even use solid copper romex (like in a house) wire.

I have found a major difference in the effort required to push the bike if it is in gear holding the clutch lever... As opposed to neutral.
Is this normal, should my clutch grab like that all the time???

That's normal. especially if it is cold. As long as it is not pulling you along when the engine is running in gear with the clutch pulled in.

Thanks for that I was getting a little worried...
I'm used to my beemer with a single plate dry clutch... If it's draggin' you're in trouble, still getting used to this multi plate oil bath clutch. FUNKY, especially in traffic...

I have two of them. Mine are both 76 models. They were made through 78. they use a torque converter like a car (actually it is one Honda designed in the early 60's for the Civic), and has two speeds. Low, and Drive. you select the speed you want (usually Drive), and go. It does not do any shifting though. It just stays in the gear you select.
It's ironic that they were not very popular when they came out, but now they are in demand. People want them for custom bikes. they are easy to build with. You do not need to do a clutch, forward shifter, or oil tank.
I will put up a picture in a little while. All my pictures are on another computer.

THOSE ARE SWEET!!!!
I had no idea Honda did that so many years ago... I wonder why it never caught on, seems like a solution to the clutch impaired...
Also I wanted to ask, is there a "booster" in the starter?
I took the bike to the shop and replaced what the guy called the "booster." Also asked him to do the wheel bearings. He said this is what was causing the bike to appear to have a dead battery. He came to this conclusion by tapping the side of the starter with a rubber mallet while holding the starter button. It sounded like the starter wanted to work, but would quickly die...

I will bet he was saying brushes. The starter motor has brushes in it just like other electric motors.
